Well, we’ve been there and back–Basic Training Graduation.
I have alot of impressions and information that I’d like to share. It may be interesting to you and maybe even useful to some of you moms who are starting on this journey yourself… So, here goes.
Before you even get to graduation, there are some things you may want to know.
When you drop your trainee off at the recruiter office, away they go into something you’ve probably never encountered before. One of the preparatory things that my brother suggested was to coach your trainee about the yelling. There is alot of it. Our family doesn’t do alot of yelling so I was concerned that this would be problematic for my trainee. We informed him about it before he left — consider everything like a chess match designed to find your weaknesses and overcome them…
Back to departure, your trainee will have his cell phone until he arrives at the base bus at the airport in San Antonio. We received several calls from the time our trainee left home until he had his phone confiscated.
Eventually, you will receive a phone call from your trainee giving you his address. You can be prepared for this by having the outline of the address ready. You can see these at http://www.blueeagle3000.com/relatives/mail.php. You need to fill in your trainee’s particular information where the X’s appear.
Write encouragement. Write love. Write often.

All future Air Force postings will be on the blog page with the AF-FYI category.

Well, you should know something that I overheard a graduating airman tell an incoming trainee … regarding the shoe shine kits that they have to buy … the cloth in the kit is useless. Bring a larger cotton cloth to shine shoes with.
